Description

Lake Erie State Park sits on Lake Erie, the shallowest of the Great Lakes, whose shoreline covers over three quarters of a mile. High bluffs overlooking Lake Erie provide a breathtaking view. Visitors can camp in one of the park's 97 campsites or 10 cabins; day users can enjoy the swimming and picnic areas with shelters, playgrounds, and hiking trails. Lake Erie State Park is recognized as an excellent place for locating rare migratory birds following the lakes edge.

Lake Erie State Park sits on Lake Erie, under ten miles from both Westfield and Dunkirk.

Recreation:

Numerous activities, like lounging at the beach, biking, hiking, fishing, and wintertime snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, keep park visitors busy.

The park has a beach, cabins, campsites, dumping stations, showers, picnic tables, pavilions, and a playground.

Beaver Island State Park, Long Point State Park on Lake Chautauqua, Evangola State Park, Allegany State Park, and Woodlawn Beach State Park are nearby.

Alerts and Important Information

The swimming beach is scheduled to be closed for 2010. Swimming can be found at Point Gratiot Beach in Dunkirk, NY (8 miles from the park) with no charge. Please check back here or contact the park directly for further updates and details.

From Labor Day to July 1st Cabin/Campsite renters without reservations must arrive prior to 5 p.m. Saturday thru Thursday and 9 pm Fridays.

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • Pets must have proof of current rabies inoculation and must be leashed at all times.
  • Alcohol is permitted in campsite area only. Please use with discretion.
  • Peak Season runs from the end of June to the end of August.

    CABINS

  • Cabins have a maximum occupancy of 4 people.
  • Cabins require a 2-night minimum stay outside of peak season dates.
  • During peak season, cabins require a 7 or 14 night minimum stay.
  • No tents in the cabin area.

    CAMPSITES

  • Campsites are reservable for any 2 night minimum.
  • Most sites are shaded.
  • The campground offers 81 electric sites ranging from 15 to 50 amps. Check in the site details for specific amperage.
  • Loop 085-097 is a non-electric loop.

    Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
