Description

Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge, over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places. The river's cliffs are surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks and tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hot air ballooning, and two pools for swimming. Winter activities include snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

Geography:

Letchworth State Park, located in the Genesee River gorge 35 miles south of Rochester, celebrated its centennial in 2006.

Recreation:

Park visitors have their pick of activities, including biking, horseback riding, fishing, ice skating, hiking past numerous scenic views and waterfalls, hunting, swimming, an ice skating rink, visiting the museum, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Facilities:

Loaded with amenities, the park has a bridle path, cabins, campsites with dumping stations and showers, food concessions, a gift shop, group campsites, a museum, a nature trail, picnic tables, pavilions, playing fields, a playground, and a swimming pool. For organizational retreats, educational and training needs can be met at the historic Conference Center, located in a secluded area at the southwest portion of the park. The fully-equipped Maplewood Lodge is an ideal vacation rental, particularly for snowmobilers, as it is connects to the NYS snowmobile trail system.

Nearby Attractions:

Nearby are four state parks: Silver Lake State Park, Hamlin Beach State Park, Darien Lakes State Park, and Stony Brook State Park. Other nearby attractions include the Conesus Lake Boat Launch, Balloons Over Letchworth, Adventure Calls Outfitters, Inc. The historic, completely restored Glen Iris Inn offers overnight accommodations and is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Basics Snack Bar offers light meals and gifts.

Alerts and Important Information

The South Pool is closed. The Harvey Pool is available from June 27 to Labor Day and is a 20 min drive through the park from the South end.

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.


  • There is a fee charged on the 2nd vehicle for the first night of your camping stay.
  • NO PETS are allowed in any cabin area!
  • NO PETS are allowed in Loops 300, 400, 500, 600, and 800!
  • Pets are ONLY allowed in the 100,200 & 700 Highbanks camping loops. Rabies certificate required.
  • No Roller blades, skates or skateboards, weapons, kegs or beer balls allowed.
  • NO shower facilities available for renters of Cabin Area E.
  • Cabin renter must arrive prior to 6 p.m. weekdays and 7 pm weekends.
  • Cabin Area C and Camping customers must arrive prior to 9 pm weekends and 7 pm weekdays during spring and fall. The is NO interior water in Cabin Area C. Most Area C cabins open year round
  • Cabin Areas A and B: Water available during the main season each year, but shut off after October 21st.

Renters of Cabin Areas A, B, D, and E are in the south end of Letchworth.

Campsite Loops are open May 14 to Oct. 11, 2010.

Pool fees 12 and over $2; 11 and under $1. Only US Coast Guard approved floatation devices area allowed.

Cabin Areas and Camping areas allow maximum of 2 vehicles; additional cars will be charged a fee. Any other dates are two night minimum rental. Cabins in Area E and Cabins D-3 and D-8 are reserveable for any 2 night minimum at all times.

Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
