Campground Details - GLIMMERGLASS STATE PARK, NY

Description

Glimmerglass State Park overlooks Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. The rolling, partially-wooded terrain is host to a wide variety of wildlife. An uphill trail through the forest affords a view of Otsego Lake; the Beaver Pond and Woodland trails are picturesque and of interest for their variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns, and mosses. The Hyde Hall Mansion, Covered Bridge, and a self-guided Beaver Pond Nature Trail are within park boundaries and open to visitors. Winter visitors can go tubing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and winter hiking. All sites have a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. Warm showers are available. Campfire wood for sale in the park.

Glimmerglass State Park is located eight miles outside the village of Cooperstown, on Otsego Lake.

Recreation:

Park activities include biking, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and camping; and winter ice fishing, ice skating, and cross-country skiing.

Facilities:

The beach, campsites, concessions, nature trail, pavilions, picnic tables, pavilions, and showers in the park are almost all accessible to disabled visitors. Camping is available May-September, and all campsites have picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. Campfire wood is sold in the park.

Nearby are Betty & Wilbur Davis State Park, Canadarago Boat Launch, Mine Kill State Park, Herkimer Home State Historic Site, Hyde Hall State Historic Site and Gilbert Lake State Park.

Each year the campground makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice.

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

Only 2 pets per site are permitted. Current rabies certificate required. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6ft at all times.

There is a limit of one piece of hard wheeled camping equipment per site or two tents per site.

There is a limit of 6 persons per site.

Maximum of 2 vehicles allowed. Additional cars will be charged a fee.

Beaver Pond Loop sites 38-43 & 50-59 are open Year Round for walk-up only.

Swimming at the beach starts at the end of May on weekends only. From mid-June there is daily swimming.

Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and is strictly enforced.

When biking, children under 14 years old must wear helmets.

Rollerblades, rollerskates and skateboards are not allowed at the park.

Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
