ALL (38) DescriptionTaconic State Park consists of more then 6,000 acres of forested land with an extensive trail system that provides spectacular views of the Taconic, Berkshire and Catskill Mountain Ranges and the Hudson Valley. Rudd Pond is a 64 acre lake that offers swimming, fishing, rowboat, canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals.Geography:The Rudd Pond area of Taconic State Park is located in Millerton, NY along the Taconic Mountain Range in northeastern Dutchess County. The park shares a border with Massachusetts and Connecticut. Recreation:Besides camping and hiking other popular activities include swimming, picknicking, boating on Rudd Pond, bicycling and roller blading on the rail trail, fishing and hunting. Facilities:Rudd Pond has over 40 campsites for tents with several capable of accomodating small trailers. Nearby Attractions:Nearby attractions include Taconic State Park's Copake Falls Area, Olana State Historic Site, Clermont State Historic Site, Staatsburgh State Historic Site, and Lake Taghkanic State Park. Each year the campground makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice. NOTICE:Rudd Pond's swimming area is open Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays ONLY beginning Memorial Day weekend. The swimming area will close after the third weekend in August annually. The last day of swimming in 2012 is Sunday August 19th. Swimming will be available in the northern part of the park in the Copake Falls area. To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made. CAMPSITES: PETS: Campers with dogs allowed on designated sites (23 thru 28) only. No more than two dogs per site. Must be attended to and on a leash at all times. Proof of rabies inoculation is required. It is preferred that sites within designated pet loops are chosen when using Service animals. They will be allowed elsewhere when these sites are not available or practical. Getting There:GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):41.97639, -73.50556 41°58'35"N, 73°30'20"W From the Taconic Parkway: Exit at Pine Plains/Red Hook/Route 199. Take Route 199 East for 15 miles to Route 22. Turn left onto Route 22 North. Go 2 miles to Millerton. Turn right onto Route 44 East for a half mile. Turn left onto Dutchess County Route 62. The park entrance will be 2 miles down, on the right side. Please note that RV's, trailers and commercial traffic are prohibited on the Taconic State Parkway.
