Overview

Description

The Lower Saranac Lake Islands provide miles and miles of boater recreation and direct access to four other lakes through a set of locks which allow your vessel to be raised or lowered to the right water level. Coupled with the ability to camp on selected island sites, being able to fish for your dinner after hours of waterskiing might make you want to stay here forever.

Geography:

The Village of Saranac Lake is split between three towns (Harrietstown, St. Armand, and North Elba) and two counties, Franklin and Essex. The village lies within the boundaries of the Adirondack Park, about seven miles from Lake Placid. These two villages, along with nearby Tupper Lake, comprise what is known as the Tri-Lakes region.

Recreation:

The park offers excellent boating, fishing, and hiking.

Facilities:

Park amenities include campsites, some with lean-to's, outhouses, a boat launch, and several day-use sites.

Nearby Attractions:

There are a number of golf courses and horseback riding facilities nearby. The state-operated Adirondack Fish Hatchery is nine miles away. The Adirondack Visitor Interpretive Center, on Route 30, twelve miles west of the campground, is a nature center and visitor information center with tour and travel information. The nearby villages of Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Lake Placid offer restaurants and shopping.
