Overview

Description

Paradox Lake is nestled on rolling hills of hardwood and creates the impression of being miles from the real world. With canoes and rowboats available for rent and abundant fish in the lake, this facility provides for camping at its finest. The hiking here is superb--get out and explore the forest.

Geography:

Paradox Lake Campground is a comparatively small campground located on the shore of Dark Bay, which is on Paradox Lake. The lake itself is approximately 4-3/4 miles long.

Recreation:

Boating and fishing are popular, but the hiking here is particularly good. A network of trails south of the lake offers access to Crane, Oxshoe, Crab, Putnam, and Horseshoe Ponds; and to Pharaoh Lake and Pharaoh Mountain. The view from the summit of Pharaoh Mountain is worth the climb! On the opposite shore of the lake, accessible only by boat, a short trail leads to Peaked Hill and Peaked Hill Pond.

Facilities:

Amenities include campsites, hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, a recycling center, a boat launch site, a picnic area with pavilion rental and canoe and boat rentals.

Nearby Attractions:

Boat tours and ferries on Lake Champlain are popular with visitors. Fort Ticonderoga is 7 miles away. Crown Point Historic Site and Essex County Fish Hatchery are 10 miles away. Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area offers adventures to those willing to journey into its forest.
