New York State Parks is excited to announce that it is now in the second phase of construction of the new Quaker Run Area Multi-Use Trail at Allegany State Park. This key transportation and recreation project will provide a safe and enjoyable means for our many visitors to bike or hike around the Quaker Run Area. Project updates will be provided on our Allegany State Park Facebook page and Allegany State Park website. We thank you for your patience while these important safety and recreational improvements are made.
Cain Hollow Campers:
Water spigots are also located around the camping loops for campers to share. You may hookup to fill up your camper tank, but you must immediately disconnect after fill up. Under no circumstances should a camper keep a hose hooked up to a water spigot at Allegany State Park.
65,000-acre Allegany State Park is known for its primitive, forested valleys, un-glaciated landscape, fall leaves, and wildlife. The park's two developed areas, Red House and Quaker, make this the largest state park in New York. Both areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails, and naturalist walks. Walkers, runners, and bicycle riders can take advantage of the five miles of paved trails around Red House. The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has some of the finest groomed cross country skiing and mountain bike trails in the Northeast. Snowmobilers are attracted to Allegany State Park for its 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and 44 winterized cabins. Other activities include bird watching, picnicking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, and horseback riding.
Geography:
Allegany State Park is located in western New York, in Cattaraugus County, just north of Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The park is divided into two sections: The Red House Area and the Quaker Run Area. The Red House Area's attractions include Stone Tower, the Summit Fire Tower, Red House Lake, Bridal Falls, and the Art Roscoe Ski Area. The Quaker area's attractions include Quaker Lake, the Mount Tuskarora Fire Tower, hiking trails, Science Lake, Bear Caves, Thunder Rocks, and the Quaker Amphitheater.
Recreation:
Considered a flagship facility, activities include beach swimming; boating; fishing; hunting; horseback riding; biking; hiking; walking; visiting the museum; tennis, baseball and softball on the playing fields; and, in winter, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Most park activities are accessible to disabled visitors.
Facilities:
Visitors looking for anything from a weekend retreat to an extended vacation are able to choose from Allegany State Park's 303 campsites, 336 cabins, 8 cottages and two group camps.
