Located on the northwest corner of 29-mile-long Great Sacandaga Lake, Northampton Beach Campground offers great boating and fishing and is a very popular camping destination. Campsites range from those secluded within the tall white pines and northern hardwoods, to those on the open, sandy shoreline. The campground offers a Junior Naturalist program, which encourages children to explore the surrounding environment; a large craft boat launch; a natural sand beach with guarded swimming area from mid-June to Labor Day; rowboat, canoe, and kayak rentals on the premises; and a large picnic area.
Northampton Beach Campground is located on the Great Sacanadaga Lake, a reservoir 29 miles long and 6 miles across at its widest point. The lake was created by impoundment during the 1920's and is under the jurisdiction of the Hudson River-Black River Regulating District. The reservoir regulates the flow of the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers, providing a conservation pool of water, minimizing floods, providing flow a draught stages, and affording recreational boating and fishing opportunities.
Hiking, boating, and fishing are very popular here. There are many community events held throughout the season, including annual fishing contests, the Royal Mountain Motor Cross, the annual Hobie Cat Long Distance Sailing Race, and stock car races at the Fonda Speedway.
Park facilities include its reservoir, a swimming beach, a picnic area with pavilions, and numerous campsites. Other features are: restrooms with showers, a trailer dump station, a recycling center, a boat launch, and a sand beach.
Shopping, restaurants, movie theaters, and golf courses are nearby.
