Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge, over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places. The river's cliffs are surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks and tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hot air ballooning, and a swimming pool. Winter activities include snow tubing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
Geography:
Letchworth State Park is located in the Genesee River gorge, 35 miles south of Rochester.
Recreation:
Considered a flagship facility, visitors have their pick of activities, including biking, horseback riding, fishing, hiking past numerous scenic views and waterfalls, hunting, swimming, visiting the museum, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Facilities:
Loaded with amenities, the park has a bridle path, cabins, campsites with dumping stations and showers, food concessions, a gift shop, group campsites, a museum, a nature trail, picnic tables, pavilions, playing fields, a playground, and a swimming pool. For organizational retreats, educational and training needs can be met at the historic Conference Center, located in a secluded area at the southwest portion of the park. The fully-equipped Maplewood Lodge is an ideal vacation rental, particularly for snowmobilers, as it is connects to the NYS snowmobile trail system.

Nearby are four state parks: Silver Lake State Park, Hamlin Beach State Park, Darien Lakes State Park, and Stony Brook State Park. Other nearby attractions include the Conesus Lake Boat Launch, Balloons Over Letchworth, Adventure Calls Outfitters, Inc. The historic, completely restored Glen Iris Inn offers overnight accommodations and is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Basics Snack Bar offers light meals and gifts.

A, B, D, & E Cabins must check in at the Visitor Center in the South end. It is recommended to enter through the Castile Gate.
From Buffalo
Take I-90 to 400 South
Exit off 400 in East Aurora to 20A East (left turn)
- Follow 20A thru Warsaw & Perry Center to flashing light in Pine Tavern
- Road straight across is Perry Road – take this to end. At stop sign turn right onto Route 36 South. Watch for Mt Morris Entrance sign to Letchworth State Park on the right.
- Follow 20A East to Route 246, turn right at light.
- Go to the end of 246 and turn left onto main street in Perry
- Almost immediate right onto St Helena Street
- End of St Helena St, proceed straight onto Schenck Road. Follow straight to Perry Gate. Camping will be straight across.
- Turn right into Route 19S in Warsaw. Stay on 19S until you see signs for Letchworth State park.
- Turn Left onto 19A South.
- Turn left onto Denton Corners Road to bring you to Castile gate.
