LAKE HARRIS CAMPGROUND, DEC, NYStatus: Closed through Thu May 20 2010 Max reservation window: Sat Aug 21 2010 DescriptionDescription: Lake Harris Campground is located on the northern shore of 275-acre Lake Harris, fed by the mighty Hudson River. Private campsites are sheltered among large hardwood trees, which offer splendid color contrasts throughout the year. While the lake offers many watercraft opportunities, many love visiting the Visitor Interpretive Center or the Santanoni Preserve Historic Site, both close by. Recreational opportunities include canoeing and boating, fishing, hiking, and bicycling.Geography:Lake Harris Campground is located on the northern shore of Lake Harris. Recreation:Motor boats, rowboats, and canoes allowed, with rowboat and canoe rentals available. A small, informal boat launch is available in the campground, and a larger, town-owned launch is located across the lake. Fishing is plentiful here, for northern pike, small and large mouth bass, walleye, and yellow perch. Hiking trails can be found on the nearby Santanoni Preserve. The trail to the Santanoni Preserve is in the park off of Site 090. The park offers trails to the summits of Goodnow and Vanderwhacker Mountains and a major trail head to the High Peaks Wilderness Area, located at Tahawus. Nature trails can be found at the Visitors Center in Newcomb, Woodrift Pond and a fitness trail near the town beach. Facilities:The campground offers shoreline and off-water campsites, hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, a recycling center, a boat launch, canoe and boat rentals, and a picnic area. Nearby Attractions:The Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center at Newcomb is only a few miles from the campground. The Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake is 25 miles to the west. A monument commemorating Teddy Roosevelt's famous midnight ride is located to the east of the campground. Golf Course in nearby Newcomb. Services & Amenities:

WHEN YOU ARRIVE-You must sign for your own site. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. The names of all campers staying on a site must be listed on the camping permit when you first register at the facility CHECK-IN TIME-Is from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Campers must register for their campsite by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation or the campsite will be subject to re-rental and all fees will be forfeited CHECK-OUT TIME-Is 11:00 a.m. on your departure date OCCUPANCY-Is limited to 6 individuals per campsite and 2 tents or 1 unit of hard wheeled camping equipment and 1 tent. Only 2 vehicles are permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply) AGE REGULATIONS-Every campsite must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older LENGTH OF STAY-Your camping permit can be issued for a maximum of 2 weeks. From July 1 through Labor Day, only 14 cumulative nights of camping will be permitted at any campground. QUIET HOURS-Are from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted GENERATORS-The use of electric generators may be limited to no more than 5 hours per day and fall between the hours of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily FIRES-Must be built in fireplaces provided. Only dead and down wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in campgrounds, and cutting down trees, alive or dead is prohibited. FIREARMS-Are not allowed in campgrounds except during the Fall and Spring hunting seasons. Firearms must not be discharged within campground boundaries at any time ACCESSIBLE SITES-At least one member of the camping party staying on the site must be mobility impaired (i.e. in a wheelchair or uses a walker) or the camping party may be turned away at the campground SWIMMING-Is allowed at campgrounds with supervised bathing areas during designated hours when a lifeguard is on duty. Please note that there may be times when lifeguards are unavailable, and for the safety of our customers these beaches will not be open and swimming will be prohibited. Not all campground locations offer swimming, to inquire please contact the campground directly PETS-Are allowed with proof of a currently valid rabies vaccination. Campers can walk dogs on a leash no longer than six feet as long as the animal is under control. Dogs cannot be left unattended and are not allowed in facility structures, on the beach or in day use areas CANCELLATIONS-To cancel more than 2 days prior to your arrival date cancel online or by calling 1-800-456-2267. To cancel a reservation within 2 days of your arrival contact the campground directly REFUNDS - Will not be issued except in cases of bona fide emergencies. Supporting documentation will be required. (Latitude, Longitude): 43.97556, -74.13611 From the Northway (I-87) - Take Exit 29 west 18 miles on the Blue Ridge, or Boreas Road to Rte. 28N. Go west 3.5 miles to the Campsite Road in Newcomb. The campground is 1 mile from Rte. 28N. From the Northway (I-87) - Take Exit 23, Rte. 28 northwest to North Creek, then Rte. 28N to Newcomb. You can also take Exit 26 to Minerva, then Rte. 28N. From the Thruway (I-90)(Utica) - Take Rte. 12 North to Rte. 28 North to Blue Mountain Lake, the taken Rte. 28N through Long Lake to Newcomb.
