Take the Virtual Tour! - LETCHWORTH STATE PARK

Letchworth State Park wins USA TODAY 2015 Readers' Choice Award for BEST STATE PARK! Read more on this!

Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge, over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places. The river's cliffs are surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks and tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hot air ballooning, and two pools for swimming. Winter activities include snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

Letchworth State Park, located in the Genesee River gorge 35 miles south of Rochester, celebrated its centennial in 2006.

Park visitors have their pick of activities, including biking, horseback riding, fishing, ice skating, hiking past numerous scenic views and waterfalls, hunting, swimming, an ice skating rink, visiting the museum, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Loaded with amenities, the park has a bridle path, cabins, campsites with dumping stations and showers, food concessions, a gift shop, group campsites, a museum, a nature trail, picnic tables, pavilions, playing fields, a playground, and a swimming pool. For organizational retreats, educational and training needs can be met at the historic Conference Center, located in a secluded area at the southwest portion of the park. The fully-equipped Maplewood Lodge is an ideal vacation rental, particularly for snowmobilers, as it is connects to the NYS snowmobile trail system.
